These are our best moving tips from our nearly 30 years of moving. They will save your sanity on move day and may make or break your moving experience!
1. X Marks the spot!
Think about what you will need the first night in your new home. Some examples are bedding, the coffee pot, cleaning supplies, your child’s favorite toys, and other items you can’t live without. These items will need to be unpacked first so you can use them that night. They should all go in their own box. Put a big “X” on the box so you will know that one gets unpacked first and you won’t have to search through every box at the end of your move day to find it.
2. Take a Move-cation.
Decide how long it will take you to unpack your clothes at your new house and then pack your luggage as if you were going out of town for that many days. Don’t forget your medicine, toiletries, important papers like legal items, passports, jewelry and anything sentimental or irreplaceable.
When the movers arrive ask them to put your luggage in the back of your car.
3. Ditch the pets and kids.
Ok, we know you love them more than anything, but if at all possible, get someone else to watch them on your move day. During a move the front door is left wide open and we have had close calls with pets escaping accidentally.
Parents, you are able to focus on your move better if you are able to put your full attention on the move without worrying about your children getting into something or being in the mover’s way.
4. Help the children understand the move.
Have them pack a small bag of their favorite things the night before and have a field trip to your new home. This gives them a chance to feel as though they are a part of the move and help them understand. Go to www.3menmovers.com and download a coloring book for them.
5. What to do for dinner on move day?
Pizza and moving is a match made in heaven! Well, it doesn’t have to be pizza, it could be anything, but let someone else do the cooking the first night at your new home.
